Mahindra Susten is the 'Cleantech' arm of the Mahindra & Mahindra group and offers diversified services within the renewables space. Mahindra Susten is Powering green energy to the nation since 2010. During the last decade Mahindra Susten has developed the projects of size 4.2 GWp+ including self-development of IPP projects of size 1.6 GWp across India.

In FY24, Mahindra Sutsen has won 6 projects of total capacity of  ~2000 MWac with GUVNL, RUVNL, NHPC, SJVN, NTPC, & Open Access Hybrid Project with M&M Group. Susten has vision to expand its footprints and market share in India’s renewable energy space as an IPP and self EPC by 5x in coming years.

OTPP (Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan) invested as a strategic partner in Mahindra Susten, which will accelerate the expansion of Susten renewable asset platform. Both the partners are aligned to grow the Susten portfolio to 7 GWp+ and have committed to develop projects involving latest technology i.e. Wind, Hybrid, Integrated Power Storage, RTC etc.

Since incorporation of Mahindra Susten in 2010, Mahindra Susten is first mover in adopting advanced technologies in renewables and developed the projects of mega size’s including one of the largest bifacial module plant in operation and India first integrated town project at Modhera with battery size of 19 MWh.

Position Summary

The Head of Electrical Design & Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and driving all electrical design and engineering activities for renewable energy projects within the organization. The role requires a deep understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and grid integration specific to renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, hybrid and energy storage. This leader will ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality electrical designs while leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to ensure projects meet safety, quality, and performance standards.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering:

    • Oversee the design, development, and optimization of electrical systems for renewable energy projects, such          as solar, wind, hybrid and energy storage systems.

    • Direct the development of electrical system designs including power distribution, protection schemes,                      electrical controls, grid integration, and energy storage.

    •  Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEC, CBIP, CEA,          etc.).

    •  Review and approve electrical design documents, including electrical drawings, specifications, and system                 integration plans.

    •  Conduct Energy yield assessment for solar projects.

    •  Conduct power analysis, load flow, fault analysis, and reliability studies to ensure optimal design performance         and safety.

Leadership & Team Management:

     •  Lead and manage the electrical design and engineering team to ensure the successful execution of all                      renewable energy projects.

     •  Develop and implement engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices to optimize efficiency,                quality, and safety.

     •  Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional development to engineers and designers, building a high-                performance team.

     •  Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability across the electrical design and                            engineering functions.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management:

     •  Lead efforts to ensure that electrical system designs comply with all safety regulations and environmental                standards.

     •  Conduct risk assessments related to electrical design and mitigate potential hazards.

     •   Promote a culture of safety within the electrical design team and ensure the implementation of safety                      protocols throughout all stages of design and execution.

Innovation & Technology Integration:

    •   Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in electrical engineering and renewable energy to                       continuously improve design and operational efficiency.

    •   Evaluate and implement innovative electrical solutions, tools, and methodologies to optimize system                        performance and reduce costs.

    •   Lead the integration of new technologies, including energy storage systems, grid-connected inverters, and              microgrid solutions, into electrical designs.

Stakeholder Management & Communication:

     •   Present design proposals and project updates to senior management, clients, and external stakeholders,                   ensuring alignment and buy-in for project plans.

    •    Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure coordinated, holistic project execution.

    •    Collaborate with project managers to define electrical design scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring                         alignment with overall project goals and timelines.

    •    Provide technical guidance and support during the construction, installation, and commissioning phases of             renewable energy projects.

    •    Troubleshoot and resolve electrical design challenges that may arise during project execution.

Education Qualification/Experience:  
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering
  • At least 17 years of experience in electrical design and engineering, with a strong focus on renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, hybrid and energy storage.
Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including power systems, protection schemes, grid integration, and energy storage.
  • Proficient in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of energy storage technologies and their integration with renewable energy systems.
  • Experience with electrical protection, SCADA systems, and renewable energy inverters.
  • Proficiency in Design & Engineering across AC, DC & Power Evacuation.
